ICEing on the cake

Day 2 of YHC’s b-day Q-stravaganza…36F at 0511 in greater Apex…woo hoo, a day above freezing! Or not. Commute across the border to Brooks Park, and what’s this, but leftover SN/ICE all over the place. Flashback to yesterday’s Kryptonite. ENOUGH with the snow already! 36 at my house, 31 at the AO, meant a nice glaze of black ice was starting to appear, just in time for the PAX to arrive. QSwap @ Flirting With Disaster – or – Slide Rules Goes to Carpex!

Background: For those who don’t know, Carpex is world region locally renowned for their Mumble Chatter. Also, the last time I Q’d in #SouthWake, the neighborhood FB / community running pages lit up with complaints about that “infernal loud counting” by F3 (aka YHC). Seems like a match made in heaven. Let’s make some NOISE boys! Background Pt 2: YHC arrived a little early to find PetSounds standing in the parking lot…in dockers and an argyle sweater. [Read More]

Sure felt like Krypton...

Disclaimer: YHC turns 45 tomorrow. This all looked good on paper. Y’all are in for an interesting week. Awoke early, excited about putting into play the little plan I worked up over a celebratory fondue dinner Sunday night (during dinner my 2.0s were even demonstrating some of the workout to my M. She was not impressed.) On the drive to the AO, I thought (maybe I better go see that stealthy little bridge, make sure we can get across it). Wolverine Tour (or how we found our way out of the gloom)

Does anyone else sleep terribly before a Q, especially when it’s an AO VQ? YHC isn’t afraid to admit that he does. This time was no different. At least three times I woke up checking the clock, making sure I hadn’t overslept. Maybe it was just the fact that I hadn’t done much in the way of planning for this Q. After all, what’s there to plan for when you can’t see the nose in front of your face? [Read More]

Shuttyversary Day 3: Gettin' After It

YHC and a crew of 7 hit up a little EC Phoenix run to kick the morning off. A 1 mile down / 1 mile back run. Upon return to Phoenix there was a new face amongst the crowd. Apparently 1 HIM-in-training saw YHC’s call to action on Facebook to join some men in the outdoors and the cold for a 0630 workout! Welcome FNG Butterscotch! Disclaimer was applied and we lapped the parking lot and ran out to the intersection for our #ShutInStandard Warmup. [Read More]

Slippery When Frozen

No frills but plenty of chills for 10 HIM at Slippery When Frozen on Friday morning. Until the ice thaws this alternative name for the AO seems appropriate. Sorry that I didn’t get there early enough to plow the parking lots clear of snow and ice. We found some dry spots and made the most out of it. Warm-up: Moseyed from one parking lot to another to loosen up the cold muscles and circled up. [Read More]

Shuttyversary Day 2: Ice Age

YHC actually had a pretty good one planned for today but due to horrible weather conditions, ice everywhere, locked gates, and lack of Pax we had to…adjust. It all worked out in the end though. Great small group to get after it this morning. TCLAPS for Hermes making the special trip to support his F3 Daddy as father and son continue on the quest to knock out a 6 pack to start off the year.
